The L.M.S interface board.
The L.M.S interface board has been designed to provide a complete interface on a single board and all the I/O signals are available via a 50way ribbon cable and screw terminal connector. The driver for this board is built into the system software and all that is required when installing the L.M.S board is to set the DIL switch and jumpers to select any of the computers free I/O addresses and IRQ levels.
The board continually monitors the encoder inputs at 20Mhz and stores each axis position in a 24bit counter. These counters have latched data lines when responding to computer requests so that counting is never interrupted.
On board DACs output the +/-10 volt command signals to drive the axis motors to the required position.
There are two system timers one provides synchronisation timing to co-ordinate axis moves, and the other is a system watchdog timer which will shut down the axis drives if a positional error or system failure occurs.

The L.M.S interface board will be available with a full parts list for self- assembly. The main connector on the board is a stack-through connector for the PC104 system.. The PC104 bus is compatible with the PC 16bit ISA bus and the adaptor card LMS ISA/PC104 (optional) allows the card to be installed into any PC with an ISA expansion slot. The ISA bus has become obsolete on the latest range of PC’s .The quest for larger memory and faster processing power means an abundance of old PCs at knocked down prices. These machines a perfectly adequate for this application and can be given new life as dedicated machine controllers.
Alternative PC104 Adapter.
RTD Embedded Technologies Inc. Manufacture the DM16 which is a PC104 to ISA
Bus Adapter. This board provides full AT/XT connections
between the PC104 and ISA bus and has a 50-pin box header connector which extends
the LMS connections to the back of a standard
PC enclosure. www.rtd.com/Accessories/dm16.htm
