Motion Control Technology
Lynton Manufacturing Service
The X-Y axis table and 3 axis amplifier were built as a test rig to develop and test the
L.M.S motion Control system.
On this test table Two US Digital Encoders were fitted to the same axis. Either can be used to provide positional
feedback data to the Control System. A rotary encoder is shown fitted to the rear of the motor/tachometer unit, and
the other is a linear strip encoder fitted to the slide.
The control shows that positional stability is maintained at +/- 1 encoder pulse ( with these encoders +/-0.01mm)
whichever encoder is used. However when the slide position was checked with a dial indicator only the linear encoder
was capable a maintaining the true position. Even when balls were removed from the ballscrew nut, in order to create
excessive backlash, the system was still capable of maintaining accurate position using the linear encoder.

The 3 axis amplifier was built as a universal test amp.
The drive cards will operate on Bus Voltages
between 24v and 180v and have a 15amps
continuous current rating. (25amp peak). It has been
used in my home workshop to power the test table
above with 24volt battery operated motors and in
The machine shop where we tested a Bridgeport
Size milling machine.
